DESCRIPTION
World Food Day is celebrated annually on 16 October by millions of people in almost every single country around the world to promote global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and to highlight the need to ensure healthy diets for all. The day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the founding of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945.
The international day is observed throughout the world by many organizations and authorities in support of the FAO’s mission to utilize the occasion to raise awareness and to meet bigger support and understanding to the approaches that can play an important role to put an end to world hunger.
Since 1981, World Food Day has adopted a different theme each year in order to highlight areas needed for action and provide a common focus. Most of the themes revolve around agriculture because only investment in agriculture – together with support for education and health – will turn this situation around.
