International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

DESCRIPTION

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women was established in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly. This observance is celebrated every year on 25 November to raise awareness of the continuing toll of gender-based violence and calls for action to end these human rights violations.

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it. Globally, it is estimated that one in three women will experience physical or sexual abuse in her lifetime.

The day is also known as Orange Day because the colour orange is recognised across the world as that chosen by UN Women to symbolise a future without violence against women.

CHALLENGE

The pandemic of violence against women is not new. But the #COVID19 crisis has intensified it, while accessing help became harder.

Show your support survivors during the #30Days of Awareness against Gender-Based Violence. Take a photo of your message of support, using the hashtag #YouWeen and upload it on your social media and the Virtual platform of the project.
